Eternal Worlds Foundation

Eternal Worlds Preservation Standard

A practical framework for assessing whether a digital world can be cared for responsibly.

EWPS is a proposed internal methodology, not accredited third-party certification. A checklist does not establish legal permission or guarantee service availability.

Assess all eight domains, record the evidence and limitations, identify an owner, and set a review date. Small projects can use concise notes; larger projects can attach references in their internal documentation.

01

Hosting and software documentation

Record versions, dependencies, ports, operating procedures and a reproducible setup.

02

Backups and restoration testing

Define backup ownership, retention and recovery procedures; record the result of a restoration test.

03

Monitoring and incident response

Assign monitoring responsibility, notification contacts and an incident-response procedure.

04

Technical and administrative ownership

Identify responsible administrators, access responsibilities and a successor.

05

Hosting permissions and rights documentation

Record the basis for hosting and distribution, permission evidence and unresolved restrictions.

06

Infrastructure security and access control

Review least privilege, credential handling, software updates and access revocation.

07

Data portability and community transition

Document export limitations, transition steps and authorized recipients.

08

Financial and operational sustainability

Identify expected resource use, funding assumptions, capacity limits and a continuity plan.

Readiness checklist

For each domain, record Not Evaluated, Needs Improvement, Meets Standard or Not Applicable. Document why, name the responsible caretaker and date the review.

Readiness should be reassessed after material changes or incidents. Internal project assessments keep a last-review date and an audit history. They are not automatically published as endorsements.
