Eternal Worlds Foundation
Founding principles
Our proposed founding principles guide the platform and the organization we are building.
Digital history matters
We believe digital worlds are part of our cultural history and deserve to be preserved. A game’s commercial decline or discontinuation should not automatically mean the permanent loss of its experiences and communities.
Communities before profit
We exist to serve communities, not exploit them. Foundation resources should support preservation, access, education, and community sustainability rather than maximizing revenue.
Access without unnecessary barriers
No community should lose its home simply because it cannot generate a profit. Whenever legally and financially feasible, we intend to provide free access to supported games and services.
Respect the creators
We recognize the legitimate rights and interests of developers, artists, publishers, and other rights holders. Preservation must be pursued responsibly, lawfully, transparently, and with appropriate permissions or legal grounds.
Preserve the knowledge
Preservation requires more than keeping servers online. Documentation, technical knowledge, software history, development practices, and restoration methods should survive for future generations.
Earn community trust
Trust must be earned through responsible security, fair administration, transparent decisions, and careful stewardship of infrastructure and resources.
Plan beyond one caretaker
Preserved worlds should not depend on one person. Shared documentation, backups, sustainable operations, succession planning, and orderly transitions should guide our systems.
The Eternal Worlds Promise
We cannot guarantee that every world will last forever. Technology changes, resources are finite, and circumstances may place preservation beyond our control.
What we can promise is that no world entrusted to our care will be treated as disposable.
We will preserve what we can, document what we learn, respect those who created these experiences, and work to ensure that the memories and communities built within them have a future.
